Daragh & Cathryn on Chantey

Welcome to our trip journal!
Daragh and I have been planning our getaway now for the past two years with a wonderful group of sailors from the Blue Water Sailing Association and more recently, The Fleet, a small group of sailors going offshore this year or in the near future. With newly-retired Skipper Daragh, First Mate Georgie, the Westie, and myself, Cathryn, Chief Cook and Bottlewasher aboard, we hope to set off for Mexico and beyond....Our plan is to 'harbour-hop' down the coast of the USA as far as San Diego where we will hang out with friends before making for the Baja. Oh, by the way, we will also make a pit stop in Puerto Vallarta where we plan to get married along the way! The kids and a few friends and family will join us there for the festivities. Georgie is the Ring Bearer. After ringing in the New Year we will carry on south and see where the wind blows us. We hope you will follow along on our journey and enjoy the highs and lows on board SV Chantey.

Departure Day looms on the horizon!

Well the day of reckoning has finally arrived. The mast has been hoisted back in place, the rigging replaced, the house is rented, and the bank account depleted. Time to leave town. The only thing left to do is untie the rope! We will be heading out Friday, July 29th for the Bluewater Rendezvous and farewell to the Fleet at Saturna Island. From there we will head for Port Angeles to check in with U.S. Customs, before a sharp turn left at Cape Flattery and the long trip south to temperate shores. First stop La Push. Without being too maudlin or sentimental, we will be thinking of our family, friends, and acquaintances back home and afar, and wishing you all happy travels in your own lives in the year ahead. In the words of T.S. Eliot..
We shall not cease from exploration,
And the end of all our exploring
will be to arrive where we have started,
And know that place for the first time.
